KVOST STIPENDIUM 2020

CRISTINA FERREIRA

Kunstverein Ost is pleased to announce Portuguese artist Cristina Ferreira as the recipient of the KVOST Stipend 2020. Cristina Ferreira (1990*), who lives in Poland was chosen from a total of 76 applications.

The jury consisted of the artists Asta Gröting and Agnieszka Polska as well the curating team Nathalie Hoyos & Rainald Schumacher and the founding directors of KVOST, Julia Rust and the curator Stephan Koal.

The jury recognizes the European, integrative orientation and the communal perspective of her project “Świetlica (common room)”. The artist, who is living in Poland since 2013, takes a reverse look at the everyday life of Polish immigrants, who live in Berlin.

The gallery will become a meeting point and place for exchange, initially for interviews and discussions with the artist, who is fluent in Polish.

The jury acknowledged that the recorded conversations don’t stay as mundane documentation, but become material for the artistic work. They are getting transformed into texts, poems, aphorisms and other literary forms. The literry text will be performed in different forms, such as reading, play or dramatic action.

In their discussion, the jury emphasized that this open form for the final exhibition format and the participatory integration of another audience/actors will result in an excellent project, especially for the young Kunstverein Ost, in which the artist, KVOST and the audience will gain new experiences and insights.

The presentation of the results of the KVOST scholarship has been postponed to September 2021. The stay in Berlin associated with the scholarship was converted. Cristina Ferreira receives financial support for a period of one year.

The KVOST Artist-in-Residence program is canceled for this year’s. Instead, Cristina Ferreira’s project will receive financial and organisational support from KVOST for a period of one year. The results of the KVOST scholarship will be presented at Berlin Art Week 2021.
