How does a young generation imagine its future in an environment marked by political and economic instability? The Status Quo Moldova – Generation Zoomer: Digital Nomads and Their Local Future project provides vivid visual answers to this question from the perspective of the young people themselves.
The participants are students aged between 18 and 22 at the Colegiul de Arte Plastice in Chisinau and the Benderskaya State University of Arts V. I. Postoykin in Bender (Tighina) in Transnistria – an internationally unrecognized region inside Moldova under separate government. These young people are growing up in a complex political and social environment that informs their ideas about life and the future.
As part of a process of photographic work, the participants have developed their own series of images in which they express their wishes, expectations, and personal realities in a documentary or staged manner. The result is a visual exploration of identity, belonging, and the future. The goal: to create a photo series that can serve as an example for Generation Zoomer.
Two photographers from each of the two participating art schools were selected for the final presentation. Their works will be shown together with the portraits of the young people, photographed by Volker Kreidler, in the exhibition at KVOST. The participants’ photographic images of themselves thus engage in a dialogue with the documentary, outside perspective.
The exhibition highlights how young people situate their future, in the space between local reality, digital networking, and geopolitical uncertainty – and what images they find to express this.
Volker Kreidler has been exploring the transformation processes and topography of eastern and central Europe for many years. His work focuses in particular on the social domain as the mnemonic reflection of human activity. He has been realizing projects and exhibitions for over 30 years.
